16th Guignolée du Dr Julien

First partial count of $1,000,642 collected as of December 15, 2018

MONTREAL, Dec. 15, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - As of the evening of December 15, $1,000,642 had been raised by the 16th Guignolée du Dr Julien fundraiser. This initial count includes only the funds raised for the Fondation's three centres of expertise and training and does not yet include the results of the Guignolée's fundraising activities for the other certified community social pediatrics centres in Quebec.

"Once again this year we are deeply touched by the community's generosity. On behalf of the Fondation's three centres of expertise and training, I would like to extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported us and continues to do so. The ongoing support of the community is a crucial element that allows us to care for and empower these children and youths whose development has been compromised by the difficult life circumstances in which they are growing up," said Dr. Gilles Julien, Clinical Director, Founding President and CEO of his namesake foundation. He adds that it contributes to the respect of their right to overall health.

The funds collected by the Guignolée du Dr Julien will be used to provide free care, tools and guidance to over 2,600 youths in the Hochelaga, Maisonneuve and Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhoods.

Street performers, singers, mascots, Impact players, celebrities and actors took part in the 16th edition of the fundraiser. Festivities were held in all three of the Fondation's centres of expertise and training in Hochelaga, Maisonneuve and Côte-des-Neiges, in Montreal. We would also like to thank everyone who has generously shared our campaign on social media.

The Fondation team would like to give special thanks to the many volunteers who took part in this 16th edition of the Guignolée du Dr Julien, and all its partners: the godmother and godfather of the event, Ève Christian and Christian Bégin; the team from Samedi et rien d'autre, which was hosted for the 13th consecutive year by Joël Le Bigot and broadcast on ICI Radio-Canada Première; Jean-Charles Lajoie for hosting the traditional children's street hockey game for the 10th time; TELUS for its help with the call centre; and the Jean Coutu Group for its ongoing support with the downloadable Fondation du Dr Julien sticker pack. The Foundation would also like to thank 91.9 Sport and the RNC Media network for its support throughout Quebec.

We also want to highlight the generosity of the many people who have donated an exceptional number of gifts, making it possible for us to give gifts to children at Christmas and bring joy to the families over the holidays, in collaboration with the Cap St-Barnabé community organization.

• By downloading the free Fondation du Dr Julien sticker pack available on the App Store. For each download, Jean Coutu will donate $10 to the Fondation, up to $40,000. These are stickers of encouragement that can be sent by text message.

About the Fondation du Dr Julien
The Fondation du Dr Julien's mission is to give as many children as possible living in vulnerable circumstances access to community social pediatrics care and services, to help them develop to their full potential and enjoy greater well-being in accordance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child. It also trains, guides and certifies a network of community social pediatrics centres (CSPC) in Quebec and elsewhere in Canada. Today, 34 CSPCs provide care to and empower some 7,300 children and their families in Quebec.
