Hydrogen Industry Alliance Launched to Accelerate Clean Hydrogen Market Development

Energy Systems Network (ESN) announced today the launch of the Hydrogen Industry Alliance (HIA), which will operate under its 501(c)6 non-profit status. The HIA is a network of companies spanning the energy and mobility ecosystems working collaboratively to support the development of the clean hydrogen market in the Midwest and beyond.

The clean hydrogen industry has announced over 1,400 projects requiring $570 billion in investments by 2030. These projects and the economic development and jobs they bring require cross-industry collaboration and public-private partnerships at the state, regional, and national levels. The HIA will foster such collaboration and serve as a catalyst for commercial partnership. It will facilitate shared project learnings and market research, advocate with federal, state, and local governments, and educate the public on the benefits of clean hydrogen, thereby driving the development of the clean hydrogen market.

"There is no shortage of commercial interest in clean hydrogen, but sustained development requires clear market-driven policies that will attract private investment and meet diverse customer needs. We have heard from companies across the energy, manufacturing, and transportation sectors who desire a best-in-class industry-led platform for commercial collaboration, advocacy, and education. This is exactly why we are launching the Hydrogen Industry Alliance," said Paul Mitchell, President and CEO of Energy Systems Network (ESN).

In a powerful show of support, several industry leaders, including BP, Doral Group H2, Duke Energy Indiana, The Heritage Group, Hoosier Energy, Itochu Corporation, and MISO, have committed to be inaugural members of the Hydrogen Industry Alliance. Additional companies will be added to the HIA on a select basis to ensure a balance of industry representation, including technology supply, production, delivery, and consumption in the energy, transportation, and manufacturing industries.

"I am excited to see ESN launch the Hydrogen Industry Alliance. This alliance will play a key role in commercial collaboration, advocacy, and education, three key pillars to realize the widescale adoption of hydrogen technology," said Rushabh Shah, Director, Midwest Hydrogen & CCS at BP.

The HIA will be based in Indiana, known as the Crossroads of America, where more than $10 billion in clean hydrogen projects are already in development. The alliance will initially seek to engage with companies active in the Midwest region, which sits at the nexus of America's industrial, manufacturing, and transportation logistics economies. Over time, other regions with active markets may be linked through new HIA members. Given the critical need for consistent and aligned policies and regulations at the national level, HIA will support its industry members in their efforts to engage with leaders in Washington, DC.

"There is so much policy, investment, and R&D activity in this new clean hydrogen market it's hard to keep track of, let alone fully engage and study the projects, policies, and innovations underway. This alliance will provide a one-stop-shop for companies to navigate all the noise, understand the real market trends, find likeminded partners, and have a seat at the table with key policymakers," said Neil Banwart, Managing Director of Hydrogen at ESN and Chief Integration Officer of the Midwest Alliance for Clean Hydrogen (MachH2).

The fee-based membership is open to selected corporations. Entities who are interested in learning more may contact [email protected]

HIA will also host a launch seminar in Indianapolis, IN., on May 22, 2024. For more information about events and to learn more about the Hydrogen Industry Alliance, visit the website at h2industry.org.
