Amazon Web Services Taps Nomi Health's Artemis to Bolster Health Equity Initiative

Nomi Health's best-in-class benefits analytics company, Artemis, recently received an award from the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Health Equity Initiative for its work to improve health and reduce care inequities in the private sector. Launched in 2021, the initiative provides cloud credits and expertise to companies tackling disparities that impact underserved or underrepresented communities.

The award recognizes Artemis for leveraging AWS and cloud technology to increase access to health services, reduce disparities, and harness data to promote equitable and inclusive care systems. At the heart of this collaboration is Artemis Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) Insights?a tool that provides employers, brokers/consultants, health plans, and point solutions with the risk models and data insights they need to close health equity gaps.

Social determinants of health are recognized as the driving force behind America's health equity problem. While public entities and social agencies have taken early steps to utilize SDOH data to improve air quality, reduce neighborhood crime and increase access to food, shelter and childcare, the private sector largely has been left on the sidelines because employers lacked a lens to view their populations. The Artemis SDOH Insights dashboard solves this elusive problem for employers by enabling them to identify the barriers that impact employees' health, well-being and productivity.

"Being part of the AWS Health Equity Initiative bolsters our efforts to enhance Artemis SDOH Insights, which is vital in assisting our clients to pinpoint areas of health risks and know exactly where they can deploy resources to drive health equity and better outcomes," Sanjay Motwani, president of Artemis Health, said. "We are incredibly honored and appreciative of AWS's generous support."

"We are committed to helping organizations like Artemis use our cloud computing services to make a positive impact on health equity," AWS Global Lead, Social Impact Maggie Carter said.

Artemis SDOH Insights is part of the core Artemis platform. It combines a robust foundation of SDOH data with member claims and eligibility data to help employers understand the root layers of SDOH risks. By tapping into the power of AWS, Artemis is enhancing its analytical capabilities to deliver more powerful solutions to employers. Some organizations are already using the tool by identifying ways SDOH can inform HR budgeting and strategy. Below are two examples:

  1. A benefits leader from a well-known professional services company shared, "It's not just about offering a competitive benefits structure, it's about treating people right. As we look to expand a pilot program that promotes cardiovascular health among our employees, Artemis SDOH Insights can help us better understand where to target our expansion efforts and direct spend."
  2. A major healthcare system in the West Coast is using SDOH data to confirm their assumptions regarding costly health trends in their care population, such as the incidence of high-cost maternity claims.

Artemis, with its advanced data capabilities, in partnership with AWS cloud technology, has the potential to improve the lives of millions of Americans. This includes employees who receive their health insurance through their employer (which accounts for over half of the population in the United States) as well as major healthcare providers and integrated care networks that are committed to managing the health outcomes of the people they serve.
