Nationally, French Bulldog Holds On To The Top Spot
NEW YORK, March 20, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- After being named Boston's #1 dog breed in 2022, the French Bulldog once again took Boston's top spot in the American Kennel Club's (AKC®) 2023 ranking of the most popular AKC-recognized dog breeds in the U.S.
The French Bulldog was also recognized as the #1 pup in Dallas and Chicago.
Although the top five breeds for Boston stayed the same, the top ten saw some switch ups, with the Australian Shepherd moving from #11 in 2022 to #8 in 2023 and Rottweilers jumping from #19 to replace the Great Dane for #7.
"The French Bulldog has kept it's number one spot in Boston," said AKC Executive Secretary Gina DiNardo. "These adaptable pups do well with a variety of pet owners, so it's no surprise that they are the favorite in Boston."

Since overtaking the loveable Labrador Retriever as the most popular breed, the French Bulldog's popularity has continued to surge. The breed is playful, adaptable and has an even temperament. Frenchies are very popular among city dwellers, as they're also portable and get along with almost anyone.
