Alaska Power & Telephone Moves Corporate Headquarters to Ketchikan

Alaska Power & Telephone Company (AP&T) is pleased to announce its decision to move its corporate headquarters to Ketchikan, Alaska. The company made the determination after considering numerous potential locations across the State of Alaska.

"For nearly 70 years, AP&T has provided essential services to Alaskans. Today, those services include reliable power and internet connectivity, from Bettles to Metlakatla and dozens of communities in between," Senator Lisa Murkowski said. "I'm proud of this homegrown, community-focused business and delighted they are moving their headquarters to Ketchikan. This is not only an investment in the Southeast region, but a vote of confidence in the future of our state, and I thank AP&T for bringing its business home to Alaska."

In addition to being central to many of AP&T's service areas, Ketchikan is a convenient two-hour flight from Seattle's airport and business community. Ketchikan also enjoys regular barge connectivity to the Puget Sound region and its robust supply chain, and ferry connectivity to many other Alaska communities.

The decision comes during AP&T CEO Bill Marks' first weeks on the job. "Alaska Power & Telephone is thrilled to call the State of Alaska our home for the very first time," said Marks. "We look forward to serving Alaska communities from Alaska. In the coming months, we will be celebrating our status as an Alaska-based company with our friends and neighbors within the Ketchikan community."

Over the decades, AP&T has grown through development of new utility systems in rural communities lacking centralized services; by acquiring and upgrading other utility systems; and by development of hydropower projects and telecommunication networks. AP&T's most recent projects have involved development of fiber optic networks bringing advanced broadband to rural Alaska.

While AP&T weighed many factors in its selection of a new location for its headquarters, outreach from Ketchikan Borough Mayor Rodney Dial, City Mayor David Kiffer, and the Ketchikan Chamber of Commerce ultimately played a decisive role in the choice of Ketchikan as a new home.

Ketchikan Borough Mayor Rodney Dial stated: "The Ketchikan Gateway Borough is excited to hear of the future relocation of AP&T's corporate headquarters to the island. Businesses like AP&T represent the essence of economic development and the diversity in our economy that will support a prosperous and healthy community for years to come. Welcome to Ketchikan AP&T!"

City of Ketchikan Mayor David Kiffer remarked: "The moving of Alaska Power & Telephone's corporate offices to Alaska is a welcome return to its historic roots in Southeast. For more than six decades it has been the glue that has held together more than fifteen communities in the region. The move to Ketchikan also brings AP&T that much closer to the numerous communities it serves in northern Alaska. And in Alaska, closer is always better. Ketchikan is proud to host AP&T."

AP&T (OTCMKTS:APTL) is an employee- and investor-owned utility providing diverse services in 40 locations. Additional company information can be found at: www.aptalaska.com
