NAACP Hosts 55th Image Awards Golf Invitational Promoting Diversity in Golf

The NAACP held its' 55th Image Awards Golf Invitational, a PGD Global production, on Tuesday, March 12 to kick off Image Awards week and highlight the NAACP's commitment to making the world of golf more accessible for all.

The 55th NAACP Image Awards Golf Invitational , A PGD Global production, presented by Wells Fargo teed off on Tuesday, March 12, at Monarch Beach Golf Links. The event kicked off Image Awards week and spotlighted the NAACP's commitment to fostering diversity in the world of golf.

NAACP President & CEO, Derrick Johnson, welcomed attendees to a groundbreaking event, "Breakfast on the First Tee," setting the tone for a day dedicated to celebrating Black excellence in sports, entertainment, and beyond.

This year's Black Excellence On-Course Awards Museum showcased photographs of Black legends, celebrating their achievements both on and off the green. The event aimed to address the lack of diversity in professional golf, where African Americans comprise only 9% of players, according to Zippia demographics.

The Golf Invitational featured 20 teams composed of prominent Image Awards nominees, entertainers, athletes, and industry leaders, competing in a 5-person tournament scramble format. The event was hosted by Matt Barnes, former NBA star and host of the All the Smoke Podcast, and Seema Sadekar, Professional Golfer and Vice President of PGD Global.
