American Water Recognized in Barron's 100 Most Sustainable U.S. Companies 2024 List


American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., announced today that it was recognized by Barron's as one of the 100 Most Sustainable Companies 2024 for the seventh consecutive year. American Water was listed as the highest-ranked water and wastewater utility and ranked 31st overall.

"American Water is proud to again be included on Barron's list of most sustainable companies," said Cheryl Norton, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, American Water. "Delivering safe, clean, reliable and affordable drinking water and treating wastewater, is fundamental to our business. Being included on this list confirms that how a company operates is just as important as what a company does."

The list is compiled by Barron's in collaboration with Calvert Research and Management based on environmental, social and governance performance by the 1,000 largest publicly held companies, measured by market capitalization. Calvert rates company performance according to five key stakeholder categories: shareholders, employees, customers, community, and planet, and determines rankings based on more than 230 performance indicators.

American Water's commitment to sustainability provides a powerful foundation to help drive the company's performance, growth strategy and environmental leadership in the water and wastewater industry. The company will invest $34 to $38 billion over the next ten years to reinforce the quality and reliability of its services, and to bring water and wastewater solutions to communities across the country.
