The MolinaCares Accord Donates $100,000 to Support Kansas Nonprofits

The MolinaCares Accord ("MolinaCares") has committed $100,000 to nonprofits across Kansas to address social determinants of health and reduce health disparities in underserved communities. This donation advances programs that enhance educational opportunities, improve housing access, and help mothers and families access health care, nutritional assistance, and more.

Nearly 10% of households in Kansas are unable to provide adequate food for one or more household members due to lack of resources, according to America's Health Rankings. And, the cost of housing is a concern for the majority of Kansans, results from a statewide survey show.

"MolinaCares is committed to improving the health and well-being of communities across Kansas and we are proud to team up with organizations that share this vision," said Aaron Dunkel, plan president of Molina Healthcare of Kansas. "With families facing challenges like food and housing insecurity and behavioral health issues, we are honored to support these valued partners in providing critical resources to those in need."

MolinaCares is providing donations to Kansas organizations including:

Other grant recipients include El Centro (Johnson and Wyandotte Counties), which assists Spanish-speaking individuals with education and health care access; Catholic Charities of Southwest Kansas, which provides care coordination and community services to pregnant mothers; and Harvesters Food Bank, which offers hypertension- and diabetes-friendly food boxes for hospitals and clinics.

"We are grateful to MolinaCares for its generous donation," said Monica Murnan, director of community support services of Greenbush Center. "I'm confident this support will have an impact in furthering our efforts to ensure every parent has the tools they need to help their children develop in the best possible way during their formative years."

"We share MolinaCares' vision to enhance system improvements to quickly and successfully provide housing support for those in need," said Christy McMurphy, executive director of Kansas Statewide Homeless Coalition. "The MolinaCares grant will help provide appropriate housing for the most vulnerable populations including at-risk youth."
