Torgan Cooper + Aaron, P.C. Announces $72.5M Verdict for Woman Struck by MTA Bus

On February 22, 2024, following a three-week trial before the Honorable Eric Schumacher, a Manhattan jury returned a $72.5 million personal injury verdict against the MTA.

Aurora Beauchamp was crossing Houston Street at Avenue D in the crosswalk when she was struck by an MTA bus. She was dragged underneath the bus for twenty feet before it came to rest on top of her legs. As a result of the accident, Ms. Beauchamp's pelvis was crushed and the nerves to her leg were severed from the spinal cord, leaving her with a paralyzed left leg. Her right leg sustained a severe degloving injury which remains the source of infections today.

Ms. Beauchamp is represented by Ed Cooper of the New York City personal injury law firm of Torgan Cooper + Aaron, P.C.

According to Mr. Cooper, "the MTA has spent years attempting to minimize the profound impact these injuries have had upon Ms. Beauchamp's life. We are glad the jurors saw through this attempt to deprive her of justice and hope the verdict serves as a message to the MTA to treat future victims of their negligence fairly and compassionately."

Founded in 1987, Torgan Cooper + Aaron, P.C. is one of the nation's leading personal injury firms. The firm has built its reputation by securing record setting verdicts. Ed Cooper was voted 2021 Best Lawyers "Lawyer of the Year," and is considered by his peers to be one of the best plaintiffs' personal injury and construction accident lawyers in New York City.
