AHF Backs Congressional Push to Protect HIV/AIDS Funding
AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the world's largest nonprofit HIV/AIDS healthcare organization, released the following statement Monday in support of U.S. Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) and 60 bipartisan members of Congress asking House Republicans not to strip $767 million from HIV/AIDS programs in the upcoming federal budget for fiscal year 2024:
"We support Congresswoman Maxine Waters' fight to preserve federal AIDS funding. It would be penny wise and pound foolish to undo the amazing progress that has been made in combatting HIV in America," said Michael Weinstein, AHF president and cofounder. "Republicans should remember that it was former President Trump who inaugurated the Ending the HIV Epidemic in the U.S. program. With 500,000 people living with HIV still not in regular treatment, it would be a tragic mistake to take our foot off the gas now."
