The Institutes Griffith Foundation Welcomes New Advisory Council Members, Beth Murphy and Ken Cooley
The Institutes Griffith Foundation is pleased to announce the two newest members of its Advisory Council, Beth W. Murphy and Ken Cooley. Both Murphy and Cooley will help to advance Griffith's mission to provide non-partisan, non-advocative education to public policy members.
Beth Murphy, as EVP, Chief Legal Officer, and Corporate Secretary at Grange Insurance, leads the Legal, Compliance, Internal Audit, House Counsel, and Corporate Litigation teams. These teams support the enterprise, focusing on property and casualty compliance, litigation defense, and legal research. Murphy provides guidance on privacy, employment, governance, regulatory issues, innovation, and strategic initiatives.
Starting her career in 1998 at Rainey, Kizer, Butler, Reviere & Bell, she joined Grange Insurance in 2002, moving to the Corporate Legal Department in 2005. Licensed in Tennessee and Ohio, Murphy holds a JD from The University of Alabama School of Law. She has served in leadership roles across various insurance associations and community organizations, demonstrating her commitment to the insurance industry and community engagement.
Ken Cooley, an attorney with 20 years in public office, has significantly impacted California's legislative landscape. Serving in the California State Assembly from 2012 to 2022, Cooley chaired key committees, including the Joint Senate and Assembly Rules Committee. His leadership facilitated the modernization of legislative facilities, notably overseeing the transition to a temporary 10-story building in 2021, enabling the replacement of outdated infrastructure. Cooley's tenure began with his election as a founding Councilmember of Rancho Cordova in 2002, highlighting his deep local engagement.
A recognized expert in disaster readiness and insurance policy, Cooley's contributions span from advisory roles in the state assembly and senate to significant positions on the Alfred E. Alquist Seismic Safety Commission. His work at the National Council of Insurance Legislators, culminating in his presidency in 2022, underscores his commitment to bipartisan governance and insurance policy advancement. Cooley's career reflects a dedication to participatory democracy and accountable governance, emphasized by his efforts in legislative oversight and bipartisanship.
