Ladder Safety Begins at Home

When ladders are used as intended and a few simple rules are followed, their usage can be safe and productive. However, each year, injuries from ladder falls still number in the hundreds of thousands ? estimates range from 150,000 to 500,000. Hundreds of people die as a result. Many of these incidents happen at home. But DIY home improvement projects, regular home maintenance, and repairs that require climbing can be done safely with thorough safety planning and proper training.

The American Ladder Institute (ALI) wants to help reduce these incident numbers and promote safe use of ladders in the home and on the job. Its signature initiative is National Ladder Safety Month, observed every March.

All year long, ALI makes available a wide variety of training and tips to make ladder use safer. One of the latest is a ladder safety video featuring Jennifer Bonner, host of "The Lifestyle List" on WeTV. In the three-minute video, Bonner demonstrates basic ladder safety tips and directs viewers to the many resources ALI has available to aid in safe ladder usage. Watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8HcLhPbv3c.

These resources include ALI's dedicated ladder safety training site, with a name that's easy to remember: https://www.laddersafetytraining.org/. Its comprehensive training modules are designed for the pros ? and the perfect way for the public to learn as well.

Ladder-users can also visit the Ladder Safety Month website (https://www.laddersafetymonth.com/Safety-Resources/Flyers) and ALI's main website (https://www.americanladderinstitute.org/) for a host of ways to get trained on better ladder safety practices.

Together, by encouraging safe ladder usage and sharing the many available resources, we can help ALI in its mission to reduce accidents and injuries related to improper ladder use.

About the American Ladder Institute
Founded in 1947, the American Ladder Institute (ALI) is a not-for-profit trade association dedicated to promoting safe ladder use through ladder safety resources, safety training, and the development of ANSI ladder safety standards. ALI also represents the common business interests of its members, who are comprised of the leading ladder and ladder component manufacturers in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. National Ladder Safety Month, observed each March and spearheaded by ALI, is the only program dedicated exclusively to promoting ladder safety at home and at work. https://www.americanladderinstitute.org/.
