Employers Brace for New Laws in 2024 with Guidance From California Employers Association


California is known for pioneering new employment laws and 2024 is no exception with businesses facing many new laws and expansion of existing laws. "As the new year is fast approaching, we want to help educate employers so they are confident in navigating compliance and staying out of trouble," said Kim Gusman, President and CEO of CEA.

Major changes this year include increased mandatory paid sick leave, a brand-new reproductive loss bereavement leave, workplace violence prevention plan requirements, non-compete agreements, AI use, cannabis-use protections, wage and hour updates and more. These changes will affect most employers.

New laws also require employers to update required labor law posters and employee handbook policies. Employers are encouraged to audit their practices to ensure compliance.
