MEDIA ADVISORY: 'No space for hate in Ontario' rally draws support from OPSEU/SEFPO
TORONTO, Sept. 19, 2023 /CNW/ - In response to the planned protests by a coalition of anti-trans and far-right groups, a united front of parents' groups, community allies, 2SLGBTQIA+ organizations and labour organisations including OPSEU/SEFPO will take part in the "No Space for Hate in Ontario" rally in Toronto on Wednesday.
These rallies, taking place across Ontario, aim to support trans children and the broader 2SLGBTQIA+ community against the rise of organised hate targeting them at schools, workplaces and in the legislatures.
"OPSEU/SEFPO has a long history of fighting for Equity and the rights of 2SLGBTQIA+ people, so I'm proud that we're a part of this coalition of parents, students and community groups to say that hate has no place in Ontario," said OPSEU/SEFPO President JP Hornick. "These right wing groups want to disrupt, divide and perpetuate hate. We're here to say to trans and non-binary kids and students that we support you. Love always wins!"
"We're here for the kids because we need to be here for them ? with love and solidarity," said OPSEU/SEFPO First Vice-President/Treasurer Laurie Nancekivell. "Our priority is their safety and well-being -- that's why we're standing up to the hate, transphobia and misinformation."
Hornick and Nancekivell will march from the 519 Community Centre to the rally at Queen's Park and will be available to speak to media.
