Lodging industry standard for disclosing all mandatory fees is best for consumers
On behalf of California's more than 6,000 hotels and 235,000 hotel employees, the California Hotel and Lodging Association released the following statement on Senate Assembly Bill 537 (Berman) and Senate Bill 478 (Dodd/Skinner) governing disclosure of mandatory fees:
"The California Hotel & Lodging Association supports a single standard across the lodging ecosystem. Equal requirements must exist for hotels, short-term rentals and other transient accommodations, as well as the various booking channels that exist, from direct options to online travel companies and even metasearch sites, as all mandatory fees are included in upfront pricing so guests can more clearly see any costs associated with their stays," said Lynn S. Mohrfeld, President and CEO of CHLA. "The standard disclosure of all mandatory fees in these bills provides a transparent and competitively fair booking process for guests making lodging reservations in California."
