Yamaha Lends Support to Drawdown Georgia

Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A. announced today the company's participation in the Drawdown Georgia Business Compact. A statewide initiative facilitated by the Ray C. Anderson Center for Sustainable Business at the Georgia Institute of Technology® (Georgia Tech®), the Drawdown® Georgia Business Compact is a business-focused collaborative initiative focused on galvanizing climate action in Georgia. Launched in October of 2021, the Compact builds on comprehensive solution research and ensures diverse participation across Georgia's economy.

"Yamaha's support of and participation in Drawdown® Georgia underscores the company's mission to achieve carbon neutrality within our facilities worldwide by 2035 - that includes our facilities located here in Georgia, specifically Yamaha Motor Manufacturing Corporation of America in Newnan," said Martin Peters, Director of External Affairs, Yamaha U.S. Marine Business Unit. "Through our involvement in this initiative, Yamaha has the opportunity to access research and collaborate with conservation-minded Georgia businesses as we work toward reducing carbon emissions."

Launched in 2020, Drawdown® Georgia is a research-based initiative born from a multi-university collaboration. Led by Georgia Tech®, the research also involved partners from Emory University®, Georgia State University® and The University of Georgia®. The research team released its initial findings in October 2020. That work identified the 20 high-impact climate solutions that put Georgia on a path to advance drawdown, which is a point in the future when levels of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere stop climbing and start to steadily decline.

"Using these 20 climate solutions as a roadmap, Drawdown Georgia brings together businesses, universities, NGOs, policymakers, and others to join the movement," said Michael Oxman, Managing Director, Ray C. Anderson Center for Sustainable Business. "With companies like Yamaha on board, we have the ability to take the initiative further and at a faster rate. We applaud Yamaha's efforts to achieve carbon neutrality and we look forward to the collaborative efforts we will make together toward the same goal here in Georgia."

Drawdown® Georgia takes its inspiration from Project Drawdown®, the world's leading resource for taking action on climate change. Researchers from across the state came together to localize that work, highlighting climate solutions that make the most sense for Georgia: those with a strong track record that are cost-competitive and market-ready. It has grown into a "leader-full" movement, including many partners and funders working to advance climate solutions in Georgia.
