Dino Rizzo, Executive Director of ARC Churches, Reflects on Empowering Serve Day
Ministry veteran Dino Rizzo, the executive director of ARC (Association of Related Churches), shares a few of the many stories from this year's empowering Serve Day.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., July 24, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Ministry veteran and executive director of ARC Churches, Dino Rizzo, is pleased to announce that another extraordinarily successful and empowering Serve Day was held in mid-July.
The event, held this year on July 15, is a chance for churches worldwide to dedicate an entire day to serving their local communities and sharing the love of God through practical acts of kindness.
According to Dino Rizzo, more than 2,500 churches participated in Serve Day this year and thousands of projects were created. Church of the Highlands hosted 1,017 different projects and served 255,284 people and 107,917 meals to those in need.
There were countless examples of how church communities throughout the world made a difference in people's lives through simple acts of kindness.
One church made thank you cards for everyone who serves them throughout the year on Sundays. The beautiful cards were well received by those who attend the church community, as they were completely unexpected.
Dino Rizzo says that another church gathered a group of 30 volunteers to clean up debris from the yard of a member of the local community who has one leg amputated and is in a wheelchair. After clearing about ten trailers full of debris from the person's yard, the participants realized how much of a difference they could make by working together.
One church community served the members of their local fire department and their families, hosting a day of food, fellowship, games, inflatables, and face painting. The day served as a wonderful thank you but also allowed members of the community to make connections they may not have ever made without Serve Day.
Dino Rizzo pointed out a church community that packaged diapers and sorted baby supplies, which were then distributed to families experiencing financial hardship. With these necessary supplies off their shopping lists, the families could pay for utilities and keep their power and water turned on.
These are just a few of the countless stories of how church communities throughout the world gave back on Serve Day. They all helped to achieve one of the tenets of Serve Day, which is that simple acts of selfless love can open hearts to Jesus, allowing everyone to make a difference.
The whole goal of Serve Day is to show just how impactful these small acts of kindness can be on other people's lives. Ultimately, Dino Rizzo explains that the organization's hope is that serving others becomes the focus of church communities throughout the year.
Churches that signed up for Serve Day this year were given access to a digital platform that provided them with ways to organize their activities, recruit volunteers, share information with the community, and capture stories about their projects.
