United States Investing Championship First Half Results


The United States Investing Championship today announced the standings for the first six months of 2023, for the three hundred forty-three participating traders. Prior top performers include Paul Tudor Jones, Louis Bacon, Mark Minervini, and David Ryan.

Leading the $1,000,000+ stock division with a six-month gain of + 77.8% is Luis Tarin of Arizona. Mr. Tarin was born in Mexico and raised in Albuquerque. He has a degree in architecture from the University of New Mexico and is a business developer. Second, + 62.6%, is twenty-three-year-old Tanmay Khandelwal of TwoX Capital Management. Mr. Khandelwal was born and raised in Indore, India. He has a degree from Columbia University in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research. Third, + 55.1%, is B.J. Patel, a cardiologist. Dr. Patel was born in Tanzania and lives in Tampa Bay, Florida. The other participants reporting significant profits are Vibha Jha +39.9%, and Nats PLLC (J. Natividad) + 30.3%.

Among participants trading less than $1,000,000 in stocks, the leader is Deepak Uppal, + 277.6%. Mr. Uppal is from Chicago, Illinois, and has an MBA from the University of Illinois. Second is Marios Stamatoudis, + 153.4%. Mr. Stamatoudis, twenty-six, was born on Andros Island in Greece and lives in Athens. He studied Food Science and Human Nutrition at the Agricultural University of Athens. Third is Gemy Zhou, + 130.6%. He finished second in last year's competition, + 440.4%. Mr. Zhou lives in Toronto. He was born in Chongqing, China, and grew up in Chengdu, China. He has B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. Before founding Derivatix Capital Management, he worked as a senior risk and business analyst for CIBC and T.D., two Canadian banks in Toronto. He attended Sharif University of Technology in Iran, receiving a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and an MBA. He moved to Ontario, Canada in 2004. Second is Michael Cook, + 9.3%. Mr. Cook lives in London. He has a B.A. in international relations from the London School of Economics and master's degrees in international relations and terrorism. He finished second in the 2022 competition, + 18.3%.

Among participants trading futures or options with accounts under $1,000,000, the leader is Arka Trading, + 254%. Second is John Zachary, + 130.2%. The contest coordinator, Dr. Norman Zadeh (aka Zada), taught Operations Research in a visiting capacity at Stanford, UCLA, UC Irvine, and Columbia Universities between 1975 and 1983. Dr. Zadeh managed hedge funds from 1991 to 2012. He is the son of Lotfi Zadeh, the creator of fuzzy logic. Norm is the author of four books, Fox News: The Enemy Within (released in 2021), The Rise and Fall of Perfect 10 (released in 2021), Hold 'em Poker Super Strategy (released in 2020), and Winning Poker Systems (Prentice Hall, 1974). Dr. Zadeh owns a small record label called Zada Records (see zadarecords.com) and just completed a $50,000 search for top singers. He is also a songwriter. His songs include Dreaming of You, Someday, I Just Need a Chance, It's Christmas, and Lifetime in Love.
