SKATE CANADA REVEALS ITS AMBASSADORS FOR THE ISU WORLD FIGURE SKATING CHAMPIONSHIPS

MONTREAL, May 24, 2023 /CNW/ - In March 2020, as Montreal was preparing to greet the world's best athletes and become the focal point of the figure skating world, COVID-19 struck, making it impossible to hold the prestigious sporting event. Four years later, for the 113th edition of the ISU World Figure Skating Championships, the city will finally host the event at the Bell Centre from March 18 to 24, 2024.

Skate Canada will present the athletes who will act as ambassadors for these World Championships. This will take place on Thursday, May 25 at the Atrium 1000 starting at 10:00 a.m. The media is invited to this press announcement which will reveal the names of ambassadors as well as offer details regarding ticket sales.

On this occasion several athletes will join the ambassadors for a few laps around the ice to discuss the importance of this event. Among them will be Canadian champions Maxime Deschamps, Laurence Fournier Beaudry, Nikolaj Soerensen, and members of the world champion synchronized skating team, Les Suprêmes. Representatives from the City of Montreal and other levels of government will be present, as well as partners in the organization of the World Championships.

Possibility of capturing footage (photos, b-roll) on-site. Please note that it is mandatory to wear spikes or skates on the ice.

The ISU World Figure Skating Championships is an annual event that moves around the globe, attracting more than 300 million television viewers worldwide and showcasing the 200 best athletes from 50 countries in four disciplines: men, women, pair and ice dance. An event of this magnitude could not take place without the contribution of the Government of Canada, the Government of Quebec, the City of Montreal and Tourism Montreal.

The 2024 World Championships will mark the eleventh time Canada has hosted these championships. It is the second time Montreal has welcomed the championships, the last time being in 1932, which was also the very first time Canada presented the event.
