United States Investing Championship First Quarter Results


The United States Investing Championship today announced the standings for the first three months of 2023. Three hundred thirty-eight traders are participating. Performance is broken down based on whether the account traded is over or under $1,000,000 and whether the trader used more volatile instruments like futures or options. Prior top performers include Paul Tudor Jones, Louis Bacon, Mark Minervini, and David Ryan.

Leading the $1,000,000+ stock division with a three-month gain of + 44.1% is Luis Tarin of Arizona. Mr. Tarin was born in Mexico and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He has a degree in architecture from the University of New Mexico and is a business developer. Second, + 31.6%, is B.J. Patel, a cardiologist. Dr. Patel was born in Tanzania and lives in Tampa Bay, Florida. He finished 7th in the 2020 United States Investing Championship, + 188%. The other participants reporting profits are DeWayne Merritt + 10.7%, Timothy Langdon + 6.5%, and Maziyar Yousefizad + 4.6%.

Among participants trading less than $1,000,000 in stocks, the leader is Marios Stamatoudis, + 103.1%. Mr. Stamatoudis, twenty-six, was born on Andros Island in Greece and lives in Athens. He studied Food Science and Human Nutrition at the Agricultural University of Athens. Second is Gabriel Blanco, + 101.3%. Mr. Blanco, a CPA, was born in Ukraine and raised in Cuba. He lives in Miami, Florida, and is an avid tennis player and salsa dancer. In third place is Jeff Sun, + 72.7%. Mr. Sun was born and lives in Singapore. He has a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Leeds. Mr. Sun finished + 43% in 2022 and + 89.8% in 2021. The contest coordinator, Dr. Norman Zadeh (aka Zada), taught Operations Research in a visiting capacity at Stanford, UCLA, UC Irvine, and Columbia Universities between 1975 and 1983. Dr. Zadeh managed hedge funds from 1991 to 2012. He is the son of Lotfi Zadeh, the creator of fuzzy logic. Norm is the author of four books, Fox News: The Enemy Within (released in 2021), The Rise and Fall of Perfect 10 (released in 2021), Hold 'em Poker Super Strategy (released in 2020), and Winning Poker Systems (Prentice Hall, 1974). Dr. Zadeh owns a small record label called Zada Records and is running a $50,000 search for top singers from the website zadarecords.com. He is also a songwriter. His songs include Dreaming of You, Someday, I Just Need a Chance, It's Christmas, and Lifetime in Love.
