Baptist Health Expands Precision Medicine Effort With ActX

As part of an ongoing effort to expand precision medicine access to their patients and employees, Baptist Health has extended its partnership with its Genomic Decision Support vendor, ActX, until 2028.

LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 13, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- As part of an ongoing effort to expand precision medicine access to their patients and employees, Baptist Health has extended its partnership with its Genomic Decision Support vendor, ActX, until 2028.

At Baptist Health, ActX is integrated into the EpicCare electronic health record, providing actionable genomic decision support at the point of care, allowing Baptist Health providers to make better decisions about medical treatment using patient's genetic information. Baptist has utilized the service at its nine owned hospitals and more than 400 points of care over the past several years.

In 2022 Baptist Health launched a pilot program to study the benefits of genetic testing with a sample group of its employees. Comparing 2022 claims data to 2020 and 2021, the results showed fewer claims and an average cost savings of $482 per study patient per month, for a total savings of $2.6 million so far. In 2023, Baptist Health included coverage for pharmacogenetic testing to all employees and dependents enrolled in their medical plan.

"Over the past several years ActX has helped Baptist Health make the best therapeutic choices for many patients by personalizing their medical care with genetics" said Brett Oliver, MD, Chief Medical Information Officer at Baptist Health.

"With the extension of the Baptist Health-ActX partnership, we will be able to further expand this important initiative, increasing our capabilities by enabling precision medicine for many more individuals".

"We are excited to help expand the important work Baptist Health is doing with precision medicine." said Andrew Ury, MD, CEO of ActX. "Baptist Health has been a leader in showing the important benefits of an EHR integrated genomic decision support model".
