WASHINGTON, March 13, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Long-Time Partner Increases Support to $1 million Level to Build a More Diverse Health Workforce to Serve Underserved Communities

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE--Washington, DC (March 13, 2023) APIA Scholars (Asian Pacific Islander American Scholars) thanks the United Health Foundation, the philanthropic foundation of UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) for its increased support of $1 million to Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) students and its ongoing commitment to building a more diverse health workforce to serve underserved and the AANHPI community.

United Health Foundation has been a partner with APIA Scholars since 2008. The increased funding is being made available through the newly established Diversity in Health Care Scholarship program. The new initiative seeks to enable and deliver equitable care that reduces health disparities and improves health outcomes through the growth of a more diverse and culturally competent clinical workforce.

"United Health Foundation has been a great partner for the last 15 years and we are delighted about the increased support. We are excited to see its commitment to delivering equitable healthcare to underrepresented people and to building a more diverse workforce through scholarships for future health professionals. We are delighted to see how this will positively impact our Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Scholars, many of whom are first-generation college students and from families that are at or below poverty level." said APIA Scholars President Noel Harmon.

"Building a more diverse health workforce is foundational to providing culturally competent care," said Tracy Malone, President of the United Health Foundation. "We are grateful for the partnership with the Asian and Pacific Islander Scholars that will help connect our dedicated resources and support with outstanding student candidates. Alongside all of our partners, we are committed to leading the way to broadening access to care and advancing health equity."
