Mediaplanet and Jenifer Lewis Team Up to Celebrate Black History

Mediaplanet's Celebrating Black History campaign, found within LA Times and online, highlights black innovation.

NEW YORK, Feb. 28, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Helping to conclude Black History Month, Mediaplanet announces the launch of this February's edition of "Celebrating Black History." This campaign will shed light on the institutional and social barriers that the Black community faces and showcase the resources that are creating more opportunities. In collaboration with leaders in health, science, and entertainment, this campaign will highlight impactful stories, achievements, and innovations in order to empower the Black community.

The print component of "Celebrating Black History" is distributed within today's edition of LA Times with a circulation of approximately 164,000 copies and an estimated readership of 540,000. The digital component is distributed nationally through a vast social media strategy and across a network of top news sites and partner outlets. Prolific actress and activist Jenifer Lewis graces the cover of the print campaign. In her interview, she shares her experiences coming up in Hollywood, fighting against bipolar disorder and depression with her passion for showbiz, and becoming "the Mother of Black Hollywood"

"When I walked into a room to audition, I knew they needed the triple threat," says Lewis. "That grandiosity came from my bipolar disorder, the mania that comes with that. I was a locomotive with talent! I used to say it out loud: 'Not even me can stop me.'" Although initially afraid that treatment for her bipolar disorder would take away her star power, Lewis has now been in treatment for 20 years and advocates for those suffering from mental health issues. "If you need help getting out of bed...call on the ancestors. Call on me. You just have to get up."

This campaign was made possible with the support of Color of Change, the American Heart Association, ZERO: the End of Prostate Cancer, MYAVANA, the Los Angeles Film School, Jenifer Lewis, Loni Love, Jaida Essence Hall, DeRay McKesson, Ernie Hudson, Jamal Sims, Victor J. Glover, Raye Boyce, Martha Wash, Mel D. Cole, and more.
