Media Advisory - Government of Canada and Coastal First Nations announce progress to protect a large unique marine area off the Pacific West Coast

VANCOUVER, BC, Feb. 6, 2023 /CNW/ - The Honourable Joyce Murray, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard together with Cloy-e-iis, Dr. Judith Sayers with the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council, President Gaagwiis Jason Alsop with the Council of the Haida Nation, Chief Jeff Jones with the Pacheedaht First Nation, James Wallas, Elected Councillor with Quatsino First Nation will jointly announce progress on the proposed Tang.?wan ? ?a?x^wiqak ? Tsig?is Marine Protected Area.

IMPAC5, the Fifth International Marine Protected Areas Congress, is where the world will come together and take a stand to protect the global ocean. From 3 ? 9 February, 2023, ocean conservation professionals, leaders and decision-makers will attend IMPAC5 in Vancouver, Canada, to learn, share and chart a course towards protecting 30 per cent of the global ocean by 2030. The IMPAC5 high-level segment, the Leadership Forum (on February 9), has invited international ministers and decision makers to chart a course towards achieving the marine conservation targets negotiated as part of the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Goals.
