The Falls at Cordingly Dam Wins Distinguished Industry Design Award for Recent Renovation

Awarded 2022 Senior Housing News Architecture & Design Award for Best Building Renovation Following $10 Million Modernization Project

NEWTON LOWER FALLS, Mass., Dec. 22, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Falls at Cordingly Dam, a Benchmark Senior Living assisted living and Mind & Memory Care community, today announced that the renovation of the over 35-year-old assisted living community in Newton, MA has won them a 2022 Senior Housing News (SHN) Architecture & Design Award for Best Building Renovation.

The SHN Architecture & Design award is a global competition recognized as one of the nation's most prestigious industry awards. Each year, hundreds of communities around the world vie for top honors across 15 categories. Winners are selected based on their efforts to push the envelope as well as demonstrating bold creativity and execution.

"Whether dining, exercising or entertaining guests, our residents deserve to be enveloped in warm and modern surroundings that match the high-level of care and services our dedicated associates provide each and every day," said Tom Grape, founder, chairman and CEO of Benchmark. "This significant renovation ensures that The Falls at Cordingly Dam remains a jewel in the Newton community, as it has been for more than 35 years."

The Falls' renovation project imparted fresh aesthetics and new lighting throughout, additional common spaces indoors and out designed to maximize the community's stunning Charles River views, and an upgraded HVAC system to maximize fresh air intake. The renovation spanned the community's four floors and more than 87,000 square feet of common and private living space.

Outdoors, residents and their families are enjoying expanded outdoor patios overlooking the water. Indoors, a new lobby, casual bistro, demonstration kitchen, family room with a full kitchen and dining area, formal dining room, modern salon, wellness suite, recreation room, and additional seating areas make it possible for residents to stay connected to who and what matters most to them.

The community's 90 senior assisted living and Mind & Memory Care apartments have also been updated. The independent assisted living and memory care assisted living apartments now include amenities like upgraded kitchenettes with new appliances, newly appointed bathrooms, granite countertops, and new flooring and lighting.

Benchmark shares this award with its partners who made the project possible, including architects Udelsman Associates and Port One Architects, general contractor Platinum Builders and interior design firm StudioSIX5.

This is the second time that a Benchmark community in Newton has won this award. In 2019, Adelaide of Newton Centre was awarded the SHN News Architecture & Design Award for Best Memory Care design.

In addition to the 2022 Senior Housing News (SHN) Architecture & Design Award for Best Building Renovation, The Falls has been the recipient of many awards over the years. Most recently, the community earned U.S. News & World Report's inaugural 2022-2023 Best Assisted Living and Best Memory Care awards after receiving high marks in a comprehensive consumer satisfaction survey.
