Clarksburg Church Hosts Groundbreaking for Community Site: The Clarksburg Yard

Local Montgomery County Church is the host site for the new community space, The Clarksburg Yard, and plans to host a groundbreaking event on 12/4/22 with the National non-profit, Nature Sacred.

CLARKSBURG, Md., Nov. 30, 2022  /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- In 1994, a Master Plan was set for Clarksburg, MD to become "the final frontier." In the Master Plan, seven specific values were outlined to guide the development of the rural area into a large-scale town with a projection of 14,000 housing units and 43,000 residents. One value included developing the land in a way that "provided for attractive land uses that encouraged opportunities for social interaction and promoted community identity." Clarksburg is the fastest-growing community in Montgomery County, MD, and in 2020, the population swelled to over 8,000 households and over 25,000 residents, experiencing an 80% increase in 10 years.

During this fast-paced growth, the focus on building houses overcame the need for the development of community space. The Clarksburg Yard, scheduled to be completed in 2023, it is designed to foster community. Clarksburg Church will develop the front of their property for this community space. Clarksburg Church is located along the heavily trafficked 355 bike path, next to Clarksburg High School, within walking distance of two other middle schools and several new community developments.

Nature Sacred selected The Clarksburg Yard as their newest community partner and Sacred Place. According to Nature Sacred, "A Sacred Place is bonded together by a common goal: to reconnect people with nature in ways that foster mindful reflection, restore mental health, and strengthen communities."

Nature Sacred is an active leader in establishing the design for The Clarksburg Yard and will seek feedback from community members regarding this new community space. Nature Sacred has granted The Clarksburg Yard $50,000 in design services to beautify this space. In addition to the outdoor space, The Clarksburg Yard will include bathrooms and a full-service cafe.
Through polls, conversations, and activities, attendees at the groundbreaking will be able to provide feedback and share their hopes and visions for the outdoor space.

The Clarksburg Yard will begin development during the public Groundbreaking located at Clarksburg Church, 22820 Frederick Rd, Clarksburg, MD, on December 4, 2022. Please pre-register for the free event to ensure enough food is available.
