Silvernest Partners with Methow At Home on Homesharing Program for Village Members

Program offers new housing solutions to members as part of the growing Village movement

DENVER, Oct. 11, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Silvernest, an online homesharing platform, is partnering with Methow At Home, a nonprofit that supports its members who wish to age in place, to roll out a new homesharing initiative that pairs homeowners with qualified housemates.

The program aims to provide Methow At Home members and elders in the community with the financial assistance needed to remain in their homes, as well as help around the house and social connections. It also benefits the community at large by opening up more affordable rental inventory to those in need.

Methow At Home?a member of the national Village to Village Network?connects volunteers with older neighbors to assist them with services such as transportation and household support, and empower them to live independently in their homes and communities for as long as possible. Through the homesharing program, Methow At Home members who have extra space in their homes to offer will use Silvernest's homesharing platform to match with homeseekers.

"Homesharing makes a lot of sense for our Village and helps us solve some weighty challenges facing our community. Our members will benefit by earning supplemental income and aging-in-place support, while those needing housing will now have more options at their disposal," said Deirdre Cassidy, Methow At Home's Program Manager. "In collaboration with Silvernest, we hope to make it as easy as possible for members to find compatible housemates and continue to successfully age by their own design."

One pressing need in Methow Valley is affordable housing for the caregivers at Jamie's Place, the only nursing facility in a 50-mile radius. It's reported that more than one-quarter of staff are housing insecure and, with plans to expand to care for a community where one-third of the population is projected to be 65 by 2025, the situation is only going to be exacerbated. The homesharing program, which is open to anyone in Methow Valley, is one creative solution to address its workforce housing needs.

"If we can even assist just a few people in Methow Valley through homesharing, it will help create more affordable housing and enable more residents to age in place, connected to their communities," said Amy Ford, vice president of strategic partnerships for Silvernest. "A homesharing program is natural extension to the support and services Methow At Home already provides, and we're excited to work in lock step with them and start making a positive impact on the community."
