This event reflects the mandate of the Canadian Sephardi Federation (founded in 1973) to represent the Sephardic communities of Canada in relation with governmental and other authorities while respecting the jurisdiction of existing Sephardic organizations in Canada, and to promote the development of the Sephardic identity across Canada while favoring intercultural dialogue.

Our guest, professor, historian, and diplomat Shlomo Ben-Ami, possesses a masters degree in history and Hebraic literature from the University of Tel-Aviv, as well a doctorate in history from St. Anthony's College, Oxford University. Dr. Ben-Ami has written several books, the latest being Prophets Without Honour : The 2000 Camp David Summit and the End of the Two-State Solution, Oxford University Press.

Dr. Ben-Ami has been Israeli Ambassador in Spain and subsequently Minister of Foreign Affairs for the State of Israel. Promotor of a durable peace between Israelis and Palestinians, he participated in the Camp David Peace Talks in 2000 between Ehud Barak, Bill Clinton, and Yasser Arafat. He is presently vice-president as well as co-founder of the Toledo International Center for Peace, an organization dedicated to the resolution of conflicts. Juan Manuel Santos, 2016 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and former President of Colombia, has this to say about Prophets Without Honor :

« I am one of those prophets who lost his honor by ending a war of more than half a century in my country. I did it with the invaluable advice of my good friend, Shlomo Ben-Ami, whose profound knowledge and experience in the difficult art of peacemaking is demonstrated in this fascinating book. Anyone who wants to understand the nature and immense complexitites of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and why it is so different from any other conflict, must read Prophets Without Honor. I certainly learned a lot. »
