Silvernest Partners with A Little Help Village to Promote Homesharing as an Aging-in-Place Option

New homesharing initiative matches hosts with homeseekers in Colorado as part of the growing Village movement

DENVER, Aug. 8, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Silvernest, an online homesharing platform, is partnering with A Little Help, a Denver-based nonprofit and a member of the Village to Village Network that helps older adults age well in their homes, on a new homesharing initiative that aims to provide supplemental income, help around the house and aging-in-place support to those living in A Little Help's communities. Through the pilot program, A Little Help hosts who have extra space in their homes will be matched through Silvernest with homeseekers.

A Little Help connects volunteers with older neighbors in their communities to assist them with everyday tasks and empower them to live interdependently in their own homes. The Village model helps members age in place, connected to their communities, with the support and tools needed to create successful aging of their own design.

"Homesharing makes sense on multiple levels for A Little Help and other Villages across the country with members who want to remain in their homes as they age, while contributing to the broader good of their communities," said Jennifer Hammer, director of strategic partnerships for Silvernest. "A homesharing program is natural extension to the support and services A Little Help already provides, and we're excited to kick off this first Village partnership and start making a positive impact on the community."

An AARP survey found that 77% of Americans over 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as long as possible. Many of A Little Help's members are homeowners who want to age in place and have unused space they can rent, providing a means to instantly generate passive income, gain companionship and often get help with home upkeep. Meanwhile, homeseekers benefit by getting access to more housing options that are often below market rate.

"Community is at the core of all we do at A Little Help, and this program will make it easier for our members to continue to live in the communities they love with a helping hand from their neighbors and volunteers," said Hilary Simmons, A Little Help's executive director. "Our goal in working with Silvernest is to make it as simple as possible for members to find compatible housemates and continue to age interdependently in their own homes, on their own terms."

"Homesharing is perfectly aligned with the mission of the Villages, and Silvernest and the VtV Network have supported each other for years," said Barbara Hughes Sullivan, national director of the Village to Village Network. "I am thrilled to see Silvernest and A Little Help forge the first formal partnership, and hope there are many more to come."

Interested hosts can create a Silvernest profile that lists the details on their available space. A Little Help members can use the Silvernest platform to find matches based on location, compatibility and other factors. Silvernest also has a secure messaging feature for users to communicate with each other to determine if they are a suitable match and request background checks.
