The Citadel to cover funding for room and board, one year tuition for qualifying ROTC scholarship recipients enrolling for fall 2022

CHARLESTON, S.C., Dec. 9, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Citadel, the #1 Public College in the South, will now cover the cost of room and board for incoming freshmen enrolling for fall 2022 who have Reserve Officer's Training Corps (ROTC) Scholarships. That portion of The Citadel Service to Country Scholarship 2026 represents an estimated total savings of about $32,000 per qualifying cadet over their four years.

Additionally, because some ROTC Scholarships cover only three years of tuition, The Citadel Service to Country Scholarship 2026 will cover tuition and fees for that gap year for accepted ROTC Scholarship freshmen, representing as much as $36,400 savings per student. Combined with the room and board funding, that represents a potential savings of about $68,000 over four years for those individuals.

"The Citadel Service to Country Scholarship 2026 reflects the college's commitment to educate and develop America's next military officers through the unmatched leadership training experience here," said The Citadel President, Gen. Glenn M. Walters, USMC (Ret.), '79. "Our goal is to clear some financial hurdles for our Class of 2026 ROTC Scholarship cadets, so they can get to work and focus on being officer-ready at graduation, leaving prepared for career-long success."

Approximately one-third of each graduating class at The Citadel accepts commissions to become military officers at graduation, though it is not a requirement. The education of many cadets in the Corps is funded through the ROTC Scholarships from the Air Force, Space Force, Army, Navy and Marines, based on a combination of achievements and need, as decided by the individual branches.
