Sana Expands Affordable Health Insurance Offerings for Small Businesses to Ohio

Sana, a healthcare company that provides Fortune 500-level health benefits to small businesses at affordable prices, today announced its expansion into Ohio to offer comprehensive healthcare plans to small and midsize businesses throughout the state.

Sana is serving a traditionally ignored and underserved market in Ohio. The Health Policy Institute of Ohio's April 2021 Health Value Dashboard ranked Ohio 47 out of 50 states in health value. The state spends a lot per capita, yet still drives some of the worst health outcomes in the country.

The large, legacy insurers in Ohio may serve as an adequate option for enterprises with thousands of employees, but they've failed to provide smaller businesses with the level of support their modest (or nonexistent) human resources teams require. Additionally, those employers have not been given access to value-based healthcare models proven to make employees healthier at lower costs.

Sana's availability in Ohio means that small and midsize businesses can now get health plans that are purpose-built to meet their specific needs. Although they concentrate on larger groups, Anthem and Medical Mutual currently own 70 percent of the market by default due to lack of competition in the state.

"Sana measures its success in the number of people we can help by bringing better healthcare at lower costs," said Will Young, Sana co-founder and CEO. "Ohio has a thriving business climate and over 850,000 small businesses, making the state a natural next market for us. We look forward to giving small and midsize businesses in Ohio a better choice in the quality of health benefits they provide their workforce, rather than more of the same exorbitant ?negotiated rates' for care that is difficult to access and navigate."

Sana's unique digital-first, remote-first go-to-market strategy gives it an ability to penetrate new markets more quickly than those reliant on traditional strategies. When Sana enters a market, 35 percent of its new customers are small businesses that were previously unable to provide healthcare to employees, largely due to high costs. Sana expects Ohio to begin constituting a significant part of its customer base within months.

"When I look at the extent of coverage we get from Sana plans, it's refreshing," said Gisela Girard, president and co-founder of Creative Civilization, a boutique marketing and advertising agency. "Our employees love all the $0 healthcare options. The affordability of Sana is like nothing we experienced with our previous insurer of over 20 years, and the level of care and personalized support we receive is outstanding."

Starting today, Ohio-based companies can offer their employees health benefits packages with full medical, dental, vision, and more without network restrictions or hidden fees. Sana is known for affordable employer health plans, $0 virtual doctors' appointments, low copays, 95 percent customer service satisfaction and access to world-class care through its Sana Care providers ecosystem. In addition to primary care, Sana gives employees access to virtual care with providers that specialize in pediatrics, maternity, and mental health.
