Algolux Joins PAVE to Help Raise Public Awareness of the Computer Vision Challenges Impacting Automated Driving, and the Innovative Technologies Addressing Them

MONTREAL, Dec. 8, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Algolux today announced that it has joined Partners for Automated Vehicle Education (PAVE) to help raise public awareness about the real-world challenges that Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Autonomous Vehicle (AV) perception systems face in difficult driving conditions, and the advanced technologies applied to address them.

A recent report by PAVE member AAA has shown that Advanced Driver Assistance Systems have the potential to prevent a combined total of approximately 40% of all passenger-vehicle crashes (1). As those features have become widely available, we have witnessed a clear reduction in police-reported crashes and insurance claims for ADAS-equipped vehicles (2)(3)(4).

However, there are still significant limitations with these ADAS and AV systems as they are not currently robust enough to support many driving environments, weather conditions, and challenging scenarios. Driving in low light, snow, rain, and even tunnels are just some of the situations where perception systems commonly fail (5).

Algolux is proud to join Partners for Automated Vehicle Education (PAVE) to help raise public awareness of the computer vision challenges impacting automated driving, and the innovative technologies being developed and deployed to address them. PAVE is a diverse coalition whose mission is to bring about factual information on automated vehicle technology in order to fully realize its potential benefits. It is comprised of automakers, technology companies, mobility advocates, and other safety groups, and was co-founded by the National Safety Council and Audi.

"Algolux is thrilled to join PAVE to help educate the public about the real-world challenges that automated vehicles still face in low light and adverse weather," said Dave Tokic, VP Marketing and Strategic Partnerships at Algolux. "Our unique set of technology and expertise has been applied to significantly improve the robustness and accuracy of these systems in all conditions. We're excited to work with our fellow PAVE members to share this knowledge and deepen public awareness."

PAVE's membership list includes Argo AI, Audi, Aurora, Cruise, Daimler, Ford, General Motors, Lyft, May Mobility, Mobileye, Pony AI, Toyota, Voyage, Volkswagen, Waymo, Zoox, and many more.

"PAVE unites diverse organizations in the common mission to promote a conversation with the public about the future of transportation, and we are thrilled to add Algolux's voice to that conversation," said PAVE Executive Director Tara Andringa. "Algolux's deep experience with safety-critical perception technology will be a vital resource in our effort to raise the level of public knowledge about the systems that enable automated vehicles."

Algolux will be exhibiting at CES 2021. If you want to learn more about the industry's most robust computer vision and image optimization technologies, visit our virtual booth and book a meeting with us.
