GTT Group Releases 2nd Quarter Patent Transaction Market Report (PTMR)

(GTT Group), the world leader in strategic patent analysis and patent transaction services, today makes available the Second Quarter 2020 Patent Transaction Market Report (PTMR) including Patent Market Index (PMIŽ) and Patent Licensing Index (PLIŽ) results.
"Our forecast for the Second Quarter was on target as we predicted the PMI would remain in the 100 + range despite the pandemic related economic contraction and related uncertainty," commented Michael Lubitz, Managing Director and Founder of GTT Group.
While the PMI or Patent Market Index decreased 6.36 percent to finish the quarter at 107.5, the current status remains significantly above PMI trading ranges from four years ago. Monitored Secondary Transaction volume decreased by 11.2 percent in the second quarter. The lower activity level was offset by larger deal sizes, minimizing any fall off or significant contraction in the PMI.
The PLI or Patent Licensing index shot up over 70 percent in the second quarter, reflecting its countercyclical nature. The PLI outperformed the S&P500 by almost 2x or 48% for Q2.
