New Research Provides Hope for Millions with Auditory Processing Disorder Through The Listening Program from Advanced Brain Technologies

CENTERVILLE, Utah, July 14, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Published online on June 15, 2020 in The International Journal of Listening, the article titled Changes in Auditory Processing After Completing The Listening Program Training is authored by Tracey Butler, Jane Schueler, and Jay R. Lucker, Professor of Communication Sciences at Howard University.

Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) is a condition that impacts the brain's ability to filter and interpret sounds. Generally, individuals with auditory processing issues have normal hearing, but have a hard time receiving, organizing, and processing, and using auditory information. This contributes to difficulties with communication, learning, attention, and social engagement.

Several populations show a high prevalence of auditory processing disorder including an estimated 2.5 million children in the U.S.,15% of military veterans, older adults, and individuals with autism, brain injuries, ADHD, and Fragile X Syndrome.

According to the research abstract professionals may recommend listening therapies for people identified with auditory processing problems. A concern arises whether the therapies have evidence supporting changes that occur after completing such training. The authors looked at a large sample of people over a wide age range who completed The Listening Program training. Using each individual as his/her own control, the study was undertaken. Files of people ranging in age from 5-year to 50-year old for people who had completed TLP training were evaluated. Assessment was completed via results of the SCAN test of auditory processing both before and after completing training. Analyses of changes on the SCAN were computed via paired samples t-tests. Measures found significant improvements with large effect size improvements. Findings support a conclusion that one should expect improvements in auditory processing abilities in people completing TLP training.

"This groundbreaking study on The Listening Program offers hope and a proven therapy for the millions of children and adults suffering from auditory processing disorder." stated Alex Doman, founder of Advanced Brain Technologies.

The Listening Program involves listening to acoustically modified music for as little as 15 minutes daily through specialized headphones which provide simultaneous bone conduction stimulation and air conduction music listening training. TLP is used in clinics, hospitals, schools, in the military, VA and in-home for children and adults who can benefit from neuroscience based music for brain training to support executive function, auditory processing, communication, social & emotional function, motor coordination, stress resilience, creativity and more.

This study supports the application of The Listening Program method for children and adults with auditory processing deficits and deepens the body of research that validates TLP as evidence-based practice.
