Urban Land Institute Earns 2020 ENERGY STAR® Award for Excellence

WASHINGTON, April 6, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- The Urban Land Institute (ULI) has received the 2020 Excellence in ENERGY STAR Promotion Award for its efforts in promoting energy efficient and sustainable buildings, and its thought leadership on energy conservation throughout the real estate sector. ULI is a global, multidisciplinary real estate organization whose work is driven by more than 46,000 members dedicated to responsible land use and building thriving, sustainable communities.

The ENERGY STAR Excellence in Promotion Award is given to organizations that planned and executed outstanding marketing or consumer education campaigns around ENERGY STAR and made important contributions to energy efficiency.

Through the ULI Greenprint Center for Building Performance, ULI has promoted the use of ENERGY STAR across its network of real estate partners. ULI was awarded the prize for its advancement of energy efficiency goals through its Tenant Energy Optimization Program (TEOP), incorporating ENERGY STAR highlights and metrics in its Greenprint Performance Report, and regularly communicating ENERGY STAR updates to ULI's 46,000 members.

"ULI is proud to be a winner of the Excellence in ENERGY STAR Promotion Award as we continue to advance energy efficiency and sustainability to our members," said Marta Schantz, senior vice president, Greenprint Center for Building Performance. "The business case for benchmarking and the resulting energy efficiency is evident: decreases in operating expenses drive increases in net operating income and overall asset value. We are pleased to be a part of the ENERGY STAR community as we collaborate on such critical resources and work, and further bring this value to our membership."

ULI's Greenprint Center for Building Performance is recognized as a community of innovative real estate owners and investors coming together to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions and build asset value. The over 40 members of Greenprint hold over 190 million square meters (over 2 billion square feet) of office, multifamily, industrial retail, and hotel property in 8,900-plus buildings in the portfolio located across 32 countries. Greenprint members own over $750 billion (?674 billion) of real estate assets under management, which is almost 4 percent of the value of high-quality commercial properties globally.

Two ongoing Greenprint Center's initiatives include its Annual Greenprint Performance Report, one of the largest global collections of transparent, verifiable, and comprehensive data about the environmental performance of buildings, providing aggregate benchmarks, best practices, and performance trends for Greenprint member companies; and its Tenant Energy Optimization Program, which helps owners, tenants and other stakeholders work together to integrate energy efficiency into tenant space design and construction during fitouts to achieve excellent returns in the form of energy conservation and cost savings. In addition to these initiatives, the Greenprint Center is a global leader on energy efficiency leadership, releasing reports such as Embedding Sustainability in Real Estate Transactions, Unlocking Hidden Value in Class B/C Office Buildings, and Embodied Carbon in Building Materials for Real Estate. The Urban Land Institute has also conducted Advisory Services Panels to help cities reach sustainability and energy efficiency goals, including in Toronto, Canada and Washington D.C.
