Community LIFE Celebrates 20 Years Of Service To Older Adults In Western Pennsylvania

PITTSBURGH, March 5, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- On March 1, 2000, the first Community LIFE center opened out of a wing at McKeesport Hospital. Now, 20 years later, Community LIFE has seven centers in Allegheny, Westmoreland, Washington and Bedford Counties, and will be opening another center in Somerset at the end of the year.

As of 2020, Community LIFE has taken care of over 2,000 people, and currently has 700 active members who are able to live independently at home, while receiving services at the center. Services provided include primary care, nursing, physical therapy, social work and recreational activities, in addition to transportation to the center and all medical appointments. In-home personal care and home modifications to promote independence are also available.

President Richard DiTomasso has been with Community LIFE for 19 years, and has witnessed the "stunning results when a person's medical care and long-term care services are planned by a unified team and can be delivered without the approval of a separate insurer. Those results are longevity at home, lower hospitalizations, fewer trips to the emergency room, less discomfort, reduced loneliness, and greater satisfaction with life."

Throughout the month of March, Community LIFE will be celebrating their 20th Anniversary with open houses at all seven centers. Visitors can meet the staff and have a tour of the center. Community LIFE is enrolling new participants; individuals age 55+ who qualify can enroll in a LIFE program any month throughout the year. The program integrates both Medicare and Medicaid, and there is no cost to enroll for those who qualify.
