Local Real Estate Investor's Placement Program of Low-Income Families Gains Attention After DC Housing Discrimination Lawsuit

WASHINGTON, March 3, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- The recent ribbon cutting ceremony of a newly renovated home presented to a single mother of seven by local real estate investor gains attention as news of the $900,000 lawsuit won by DC for housing voucher discrimination was announced. A week before the lawsuit announcement, real estate investor and developer, Dr. Joseph Asamoah, hosted a standing room only, ribbon cutting ceremony to present a home to a single mother of seven, who had suffered abuse and homelessness. After living in a shelter and inadequate low-income housing, the family now lives in a safe community. The ceremony began with a press conference in which Dr. Joe Asamoah shared his life story as well as his mission to preserve neighborhood diversity and assist families that need affordable housing options in areas experiencing gentrification.

"It is crucial that we find ways to provide quality housing to residents who can no longer afford to live in certain D.C. neighborhoods," said Dr. Asamoah. "I hope to continue to work diligently with government agencies, the banks, and other key stakeholders to create positive outcomes for more low-income families."

Government and City Officials, Bankers, and Community Leaders were represented. Among the attendees and speakers were: Tyler Williams -Ward 6 Community Liaison, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser's Office of Community Relations and Services, Wendell Felder -Community Development Manager, D.C. Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning & Economic Development, Naomi Mitchell, Community Liaison for Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen, Sondra Gilbert, ANC Commissioner(6A07) -Rosedale, Godwin Agba, VP, Senior Commercial Real Estate, Industrial Bank, and Ron McCoy, a native Washingtonian and CEO of the Ron McCoy Group along with other revered guests to commemorate the completion and presentation of the newly renovated Rosedale residence to the deserving D.C. family.
