/R E P E A T -- MEDIA ADVISORY - Ford government ordered by Human Rights Tribunal to end discrimination/


TORONTO, Feb. 21, 2020 /CNW/ - Midwives Elizabeth Brandeis and Liz Fraser, alongside human rights lawyer Mary Cornish, will present and respond to new orders from the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario to the Ford government. In Ontario, the Human Rights Code protects against discriminatory compensation practices ? including discounting someone's wages because they perform work associated with women.

Overview:

In 2013, midwives filed a complaint alleging government had discriminatory
compensation practices with regards to midwives on the basis of gender. In 2018, a
landmark decision found in favour of midwives. On February 24, 2020 midwives will
share their response to the second and last decision from the tribunal ? which makes
specific orders to the Ford government to end the gender pay gap for midwives.
