AEye and Intvo Demo Advanced Pedestrian Intent Capabilities at CES 2020

CES - Today, artificial perception pioneer AEye and Intvo, a provider of AI-driven pedestrian behavior prediction technology, announced they will be demonstrating advanced pedestrian intent capabilities at CES 2020. The demonstration combines Intvo's smart software with AEye's 2D/3D adaptive sensing iDARtm platform, which efficiently captures, processes and optimizes both 2D and 3D data in real-time, to achieve human-like perception that aims to improve safety for all road users.

Visitors to CES can see the pedestrian intent demo at AEye's booth 7538 inside the Las Vegas Convention Center North Hall January 7-10 at CES in Las Vegas.

"AEye's iDAR enabled us to coordinate LiDAR point cloud data and raw video data to better observe, classify, and predict pedestrian behavior," said Assam Alzookery, founder and CEO of Intvo. "We are excited to work with AEye to accelerate the development of our technology using LiDAR data to inform the accuracy of our pedestrian behavior prediction."

Intvo focuses on providing smart software solutions that use AI to observe, classify, and predict pedestrian behavior, going beyond processing physical movement vectors in space. With human factors in mind, Intvo combines advanced vision systems with a complex and robust data set to bring true understanding of human behavior to the road and solidify confidence in self-driving cars with the help of AI. Intvo's innovation functions in modules, where different layers of human behavior prediction can be turned on or off, adjusted according to the consumer's needs. Autonomous vehicles will not be able to be deployed safely without taking pedestrian behavior into consideration with the help of cameras and LiDAR data.

AEye's iDAR platform combines agile LiDAR, fused camera and artificial intelligence inside the sensor to enable intelligent and adaptive sensing that replicates that of human vision. Its unique software-definable perception platform allows for disparate sensor modalities to complement each other, enabling the camera and LiDAR to work together to make each sensor more powerful. By providing the smarts to capture better information faster, the system enables more accurate, timely, reliable perception, using far less power than traditional perception solutions.

"Intvo's AI builds behavioral models, based on analysis of previously collected data via image processing and by using deep learning," said Abhijit Thatte, VP of AI and Software at AEye. "By integrating iDAR into the mix, their computer vision algorithms can utilize both camera and LiDAR data to better understand pedestrian interaction, distractions and awareness in order to improve prediction accuracy and accelerate the safe rollout of ADAS features and autonomous vehicle initiatives."

Visitors to CES can also see iDAR's motion tracking and prediction capabilities at a unique basketball demo, where the system will predict whether an attendee's free throw will be "nothing but net."
