CTA: Proposed CCPA Regulations Add Significant Compliance Burdens

The following statement is attributed to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Technology Association (CTA)® in response to the proposed California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) regulations:

"Since signed into law last year, technology companies have raced to put processes and systems in place to meet cumbersome CCPA requirements. CTA welcomes California Attorney General Xavier Becerra's efforts to clarify aspects of the CCPA and supports proposals that provide flexibility to ease companies' compliance burdens. A common-sense federal privacy law would also be welcome to even start-ups, entrepreneurs and all businesses can follow a uniform set of principles to protect consumer data."

As it relates to consumer health data specifically, CTA has developed a unique set of industry-developed voluntary privacy guidelines for companies that handle that data, demonstrating health tech companies understand they must be trusted stewards of patient data.

CTA's comments filed today can be found here.
