DENVER, Dec. 6, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Gratitude isn't just the quality of being thankful; it can also help one succeed in business. "Gratitude can help us weather life's ups and downs, including in business," said Owens. "It can help you build a legacy of resilience for your life. If the holidays bring you gloom that is getting you down, it's still possible to find something to be grateful for to raise your spirits. Employ gratitude to shift your perspective."
People can develop their gratitude with APR: Awareness, Perspective, Reframing. What could happen to one's life when they develop gratitude? In business, a spontaneous feeling of gratitude happens when one gets a simple handwritten note or an unexpected gift. Employ the law of reciprocity where it fits. This means give first and good things will return to you.
"Gratitude is good for business," stressed Owens. "Gratitude also strengthens personal relationships. Most of us choose to frequent businesses where we like the people and what they represent. As a businessperson, how do you show your gratitude to your clients and customers? What do you represent? It's probably part of your passion."
Owens suggests sharing your personal passion with others with your marketing and outreach. Your offers can share goodwill for your shared passions. In our families, gratitude carries us even further. As Douglas Wood stated, "The heart that gives thanks is a happy one, for we cannot feel thankful and unhappy at the same time." Added Owens, "Awareness of what you can be grateful for develops when you have a daily practice in stating something specific."
Develop your gratitude APR by using Awareness, Perspective and Reframing. A daily gratitude journal is less public and equally powerful for developing one's gratitude APR. Simply write down 3-5 specific things that you are grateful for daily. This written record gives you something tangible to review when you need to see what makes life good. "You'll notice in your written lists that you are grateful for many things that come from external sources," stated Owens.
Acknowledging external sources of blessings stretches one's awareness of life's gifts. It also shows that you are not the only reason for your successes. As you shift focus from internal to external and back, you develop skills in seeing internal and external opportunities. As your vision expands, you develop the flexibility used in reframing -- changing the meaning of something as you shift perspective about that something.
Oprah spoke about that ability to reframe when she said, "True forgiveness is when you can say 'Thank you for that experience.'" Reframing is a powerful tool for healing and resilience. Ralph Waldo Emerson explained this effect, "...because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude." Gratitude starts with a "Thank you." It develops our awareness of others, and expands our awareness to the many gifts from outside of ourselves.
"Practicing shifting focus from internal to external helps us to be aware of more opportunities in the world around us. This extra awareness enables us to reframe our takeaway for a situation to a perspective that is empowering for us," concluded Owens. "By using gratitude we create a legacy of a good life well lived. Now that's something to be grateful for, isn't it?"
