Ida Culver House Broadview Plans to Shift from Skilled Nursing to Higher Levels of Assisted Living

SEATTLE, Nov. 5, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Ida Culver House Broadview announced today that it plans to repurpose its Health Care Center, a skilled nursing facility. This will result in the layoff of 147 full- and part-time workers, and 53 current residents will be transitioned to new homes over the next 60 days. This transition will enable Ida Culver House Broadview to shift its care model to provide higher levels of assisted living and secured memory care services* to its existing retirement community residents and the general public.

"We are sorry for the impact this has on residents, employees and their families and are taking action to support them through this transition," says Eli Almo, CEO of Era Living, the management company for Ida Culver House Broadview.

Internal data from Ida Culver House Broadview indicates more independent and assisted living residents can be served with higher levels of assisted living (Assisted Living Plus) and secured memory care services as their needs change. Assisted Living Plus offers higher levels of staffing and supports residents who need extra help with activities of daily living, compared to assisted living in the main campus. Secured memory care allows residents living in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's disease and dementia to be in a safe, residential environment.

Most people prefer to live in a residential and home-like setting over a clinical one when possible. Once remodeled, the Assisted Living Plus and secured memory care neighborhood will provide a residential and home-like feel. Ida Culver House Broadview plans to open the new neighborhood of residences in 2020.

Ida Culver House Broadview is an Era Living managed retirement community located at 12505 Greenwood Ave N in Seattle. It was built on a mission to respect and honor older adults by improving the quality of their lives.

*Ida Culver House Broadview is working with the Washington State Department of Health Residential Care Services to add additional licensed assisted living occupancy. The launch of these new services is pending their review and approval.
