Ultimate Medical Academy to Host Hundreds of Students From Around the U.S. for Fall Commencement

TAMPA, Fla., September 16, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Ultimate Medical Academy (UMA), a non-profit higher education institution with the mission of equipping and empowering students to excel in healthcare careers, will host more than 850 students for its Fall Commencement on October 5, 2019. The ceremony, which will honor students who completed or will complete their programs between May 20 and November 10, 2019, will take place at the Yuengling Center on USF's Tampa campus. The event will also be live-streamed so thousands of UMA graduates, their friends and family members across the nation can join the celebration.

"The majority of our students are non-traditional," said UMA interim president Thomas Rametta. "Most work full-time to support their families while they attend school, and for many, they are the first in their families to earn a post-secondary degree. All of them have worked hard toward the goal of launching a new and promising career in healthcare. I'm honored to celebrate this great achievement with them."

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, between 2018 and 2028, more than 12.5 million workers will be needed to fill open healthcare positions.

UMA prepares students to meet that growing need by offering both online and hands-on training in programs related to Health and Human Services, Health Information Technology, Healthcare Management, Healthcare Technology & Systems, Medical Billing and Coding and more. UMA's programs prepare students to fill roles that include Medical Administrative Assistants, Medical Office and Billing Specialists, Pharmacy Technicians, Dental Assistants, Medical Assistants, Nursing Assistants, Patient Care Technicians and Phlebotomy Technicians.

Those attending UMA's Fall 2019 Commencement will have the opportunity to hear David Casey, Vice President of Workforce Strategies and Chief Diversity Officer for CVS Pharmacies, speak about diversity in the healthcare industry.

In addition, graduates ? many of whom are traveling from around the country ? have a chance to meet and socialize with their peers as well as UMA faculty and staff.

"Most of our students complete their programs entirely online," said Geordie Hyland, UMA's Executive Vice President who oversees academics. "For them, this is the first time they're able to meet ? not just fellow students ? but also the faculty and advisors who have supported them throughout their journey. It's heartwarming to see those face-to-face introductions knowing how hard they've all worked toward this day and what lies ahead."

UMA's support for its students doesn't end after graduation. All graduates are assigned a Career Services advisor to assist them as needed with preparing for, finding and obtaining employment in healthcare fields.
