MEDIA ADVISORY - Community to rally to support forestry jobs in Mackenzie
MACKENZIE, BC, Aug. 22, 2019 /CNW/ - Community members in Mackenzie will be marching on August 22nd to demand legislation changes to protect forestry jobs in the area.
"Mackenzie is a resilient community but we took a big hit back in 2008 with the downturn in the forestry sector and it is happening again and we cannot sit back and do nothing," said Kim Guthrie, Chair of the Mackenzie Matters Committee.
There is a very real concern about the future of the forestry town. The lumber mills are no longer operating and the fibre supply for the pulp mill is in jeopardy. The community's concerns are exacerbated by the hundreds of trucks hauling raw logs set for export and not for creating any value-add, through wood product, pulp and paper manufacturing.

WHERE: Starting at the Forest Service Building (1 Cicada Rd.) and marching to the Spirit Square.
