Georgia School District Expands Partnership with Virtual Online Teaching Service

ATLANTA, August 22, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- In districts across the country, teacher shortages are at a crisis level and finding qualified substitutes for open subjects is a prolonged and difficult task. Bearing these challenges in mind, many superintendents have turned to 21st century online teaching services in search of alternatives that wouldn't sacrifice academic integrity for students. Nyree Sanders, HR director of Newton County District, located outside of Atlanta, in Covington, Georgia, is expanding its use of virtual online teaching through a partnership with Proximity Learning. After their successful pilot last school year Sanders spoke with principals around the district about the types of vacancies they were having difficulty filling. One principal, Rhonda Battle from Middle Ridge Elementary, met with Proximity Learning and asked demanding questions to ensure they could support the school's high teaching standards before implementing the solution. For the 2019-20 school year, Newton County District is welcoming state-certified teachers from Proximity Learning to teach throughout their high, middle, and elementary schools.

"When I go into the classroom and see the boys and girls doing work through their modules online, I'm like, 'these are fourth-graders functioning in a college atmosphere,'" said Ms. Battle.

Ms. Battle appreciates that in addition to a constant stream of feedback during online class sessions, there are small group facilitators ensuring that students who may need additional support are being helped. Newton Country District is committed to making sure schools, teachers, and parents rest assured that students are getting the resources they need to continue to excel.

"This is a unique experience for our students, they don't always get a teacher that they can interact one on one with," said Nyree Sanders. "The fact that they're responding well to it means that we can definitely use it in the future."
