Dr. Rob Lamb to Shine a Light on Natural Refrigerants at ICR Montreal

LONDON, August 21, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Dr. Rob Lamb of Star Refrigeration will present papers alongside renowned professors and academics at one of the industry's most prominent conferences. The IIR International Congress of Refrigeration is due to take place in Montreal from August 24th -30th, bringing together engineers, technicians, and researchers from across the globe to share knowledge and technological developments.

The research paper, Experiences with selecting natural refrigerant solutions for small capacity industrial food production and temperature controlled storage applications, will be presented on August 27th 2019 from 08:30 to 10:10 in room 519a. It focuses on the phase down of global warming causing refrigerants and the opportunity this presents for natural refrigerants such as ammonia and carbon dioxide for small industrial refrigeration applications. Dr. Lamb will discuss refrigerant and system selection and key criteria including safety, energy efficiency, cooling capacity and capital cost. Examples will be provided for applications including product cooling using spiral freezers, temperature controlled storage for frozen and chilled warehouses, and cooling in food production facilities. Small capacity applications are defined as ranging from 60kW up to 300kW and temperatures from -40°C to +12°C. The use of ammonia and carbon dioxide in cascade is also discussed.

The IIR Congress is held every four years and the theme for this year is Refrigeration for Human Health and Future Prosperity. In addition to fostering collaboration and sharing knowledge, the event showcases the latest refrigeration, heat pump and air conditioning technologies for the international community. Professionals across the world were invited to present new developments and research in all areas of refrigeration and sustainable building, and Dr. Lamb's paper was accepted as part of the Congress program. The chosen location of the 25th ICR is also significant, as it pays homage to the Montreal Protocol signed in 1987; a commitment to reduce the usage of CFCs and HFCs which deplete the o-zone layer and have high global warming potential (GWP).

Ahead of travelling to Canada for the event, Dr. Lamb said, "The IIR Congress is definitely a highlight for me and it is a great honour to be attending as a speaker on behalf of Star Refrigeration. A global gathering such as the International Congress of Refrigeration is crucial to help the industry grow together and join forces to overcome the many challenges which lie ahead.

"Our experience using natural refrigerants has been positive, and research supports the idea that they are highly effective for a number of applications ? so I would really like to get this message across to as many refrigeration professionals as possible. From the UK to Canada, nations need to work together to fight climate change and natural refrigerants can make a real difference."

Dr. Lamb is an experienced speaker with a track record of award-winning research papers. He has travelled all over the world to share his industry knowledge. His current paper features real life examples of cooling plants Star Refrigeration have worked on, to demonstrate the viability of ammonia and CO2 in the specific industries of food production and temperature controlled storage.

In addition to being part of the conference program, Star Refrigeration will be exhibiting at Booth 409 and sponsoring the event.

The 25th ICR takes place at the Palais des congrès de Montréal, situated in the downtown core, just a stones-throw from Old Montreal, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, August 24th-30th 2019.
