Camp Bob Reaches Out to Serve Local Youth with the Support of Interfaith Assistance Ministry

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C., August 2, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- For 25 years, Camp Bob has provided summer camp opportunities to youth throughout the South and East through sponsoring organizations. This year, week-long summer camp was opened to all youth in Western North Carolina, the community that surrounds Camp Bob (Hendersonville, NC). As part of the launch of this new opportunity, Kanuga partnered with Interfaith Assistance Ministry, a local nonprofit that provides emergency relief to Henderson County residents who are in financial crisis, to offer camp to 20 of the local youth that they serve.

"Interfaith Assistance Ministry is extremely grateful for this generous gift of a week at beautiful Camp Bob for children in Henderson County who have never been to camp before," said Elizabeth Willson Moss, IAM executive director. "This partnership enabled IAM to expand our services to enrich the lives of local children whose families we serve. One of the children was so excited about the opportunity that she was literally jumping for joy as she kissed her dad goodbye!"

This week the campers from IAM, along with all the other local campers at Camp Bob are part of the new leadership-centered camp programming. While at camp, they are refining their leadership skills through traditional camp activities and even a few service projects.

"We focus on positive camp community, leadership development, and strengthening camper's connection to the outdoors," says Andrea Garber, Camp Bob Program Director.

Additionally, campers experience all the traditional camp fun including songs, adventure activities, swimming, nature, and a talent show. Fun, fond memories, and new friends are the immediate impact of Camp Bob, but the ultimate hope is to positively influence the next generation.

"Our vision is to nourish the potential of all youth to become agents of change in their communities. We really want to inspire our campers to feel empowered that they can go back home and into their neighborhoods to make positive change," says Garber.

"Partners like Camp Bob help enrich and positively change the lives of residents who face economic challenges. Thank you for blessing these children, Camp Bob," says Moss.

Camp Bob's local WNC camp week is provided at low or no cost to the campers, thanks to the support of churches and sponsoring organizations across the Southeast and generous Kanuga donors.
