Hoover Met Complex Hosts Adidas Gauntlet Summer Championship Basketball Tournament

HOOVER, Ala., July 19, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Over the weekend of July 12-14, The Hoover Met Complex, operated by The Sports Facilities Management (SFM), hosted one of the largest tournaments in the country, the Adidas Summer Championship. 219 teams of 12 players each competed for the Championship trophy as part of the Adidas Gauntlet Series. Throughout the four-day tournament, thousands of spectators and hundreds of NCAA coaches played in the Hoover's Finley Center.

"As an event operator with Adidas, we have never been offered more amenities than with the Hoover Met Complex team," said J.C. Hulls, Gauntlet Series Tournament Director. "It's a calming effect to have their team help our staff run a successful event. The customer service is beyond anything we've ever experienced, and we can't wait to come back next year."

The Adidas Gauntlet summer championship is one of four tournaments available for NCAA recruitment. Some of the most notable coach appearances included Tony Bennett, Juwan Howard, Rick Barnes, Patrick Ewing, and Robert 'Huggy Bear' Huggins. This event alone is estimated to bring in approximately $3.5 Million in economic impact for Hoover, AL.

On Monday, July 15, the Adidas Jr. Gauntlet tournament began in the Finley Center. Scott Geerling, Director of Tournament Operations for Zero Gravity Basketball, also shared, "We loved being at the Hoover facility, and believe it is the best in the country. First-class staff and people to work with. We're excited about what the future holds!"

Over the long weekend, the multi-use complex hosted the Hoover City Elite 7on7 football tournament on the multi-purpose fields and the Heart of Dixie softball tournament in the outdoor baseball/softball facility. In addition, the flag football summer camp was hosted in the Hoover Met Stadium while the Explore playground and splash pad were open for business.
