Canada's Premiers to discuss economic growth, trade and health care as Saskatchewan hosts Summer Meeting of Canada's Premiers

SASKATOON, July 8, 2019 /CNW/ - Canada's Premiers will meet July 9-11 at the Delta Bessborough Hotel in Saskatoon.

"It is an honour to welcome my colleagues, Canada's Premiers, to the vibrant city of Saskatoon," said Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe, who assumes the chair of the Council of the Federation at the summer meeting. "These meetings allow us to work together on key issues that are important to all Canadians."

Premiers' discussions will focus on economic growth and competitiveness, including immigration, trade, strategic infrastructure and strengthening the Arctic.

"To create more jobs in Canada, we need to work together to remove barriers to internal trade in our country, strengthen trade with our trading partners, and diversify our export markets," said Moe.

Premiers will also discuss health care sustainability, mental health and addictions.

"The declining federal share of health care costs has many implications for provinces and territories. We will continue to explore ways to ensure health care sustainability and accessibility for all Canadians," said Moe.

A closing news conference is planned for the afternoon of July 11.

The Council of the Federation comprises all 13 provincial and territorial Premiers. It enables Premiers to work collaboratively, form closer ties, foster constructive relationships among governments, and show leadership on important issues that matter to Canadians.
