New Business Aims to Help the More than 60 Percent of Older Americans Living Alone

OMAHA, Neb., June 5, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Maintaining a house is a challenge and, for those who are older and living alone, meeting that challenge alone can be nearly insurmountable, making it difficult to age in place. That's why Scott and Terri Dingfield have launched TruBlue Total House Care in West Omaha.

According to Harvard University's Joint Center for Housing Studies, of the nearly 50 million Americans age 65 and above, almost 80 percent own their own home, more than 40 percent live alone, which increases to 60 percent for adults age 80 and older. Dingfield says those numbers outline a need for companies who can help take care of the entire home ? from cleaning to handyman repairs to emergency repairs ? to help people stay safely and comfortable in their own homes.

"Ever since Baby Boomers began turning 65 in 2011, there's been a lot of media attention around 'how are we going to care for all these people,'" Scott Dingfield said. "There are some outstanding companies focused on helping this age group live at home for as long as possible. Even here in Omaha we have Home Instead Senior Care and Right at Home, but who's helping people care for their actual house? As we age, so does our house. Often to the point it becomes unsafe and has little of the value it once did. We're here to change that."

The Dingfields launched TruBlue Total House Care as a way to meet the house maintenance and property care needs of Omaha's older adults and their family members. TruBlue helps older adults who worry about their ability to take care of their homes as they get older. Services include handyman projects, house cleaning, maintenance and repairs, yard/lawn care and seasonal services.

For the past three years, the Dingfields have helped older adults and their family members understand how to deal with the dynamics of aging in their own homes and they're looking forward to bringing that experience to TruBlue.

"Our business is unique because we focus on all the regular maintenance and repairs of the house both inside and out. From taking care of the yard and clearing snow, to cleaning rooms and fixing toilets, to minor renovations and emergency repairs, we provide peace of mind to our clients when only one trusted vendor is coming in and out of the house. We're working to eliminate one of the fears of aging ? the condition of the house ? and because older adults rely almost exclusively on their children for help, we also love helping their busy family members with their house projects so they can spend their evenings and weekends on what matters most to them," Terri Dingfield said.

"Our dream is to combine the compassion we have for older adults and their busy families, with our passion to fix, upgrade and care for homes, into a thriving family business which becomes our clients' single point of contact for all their house maintenance and property care needs," Scott Dingfield added.
